These Solar Powered Beacons, Coast Guard approved, are used in our lighthouse replicas. The life of a Beacon can be up to-12 years. Battery life 3-5 years.
From our Lighthouse Club President
The lights/beacons that are in the lighthouses are Coast Guard Approved beacons that are LED beacons, always have been. (except for the 3 old yellow spinning beacons that we used to have that burned out a bulb every two months on average and are now obsolete) The LED beacons have a life of approximately 1000+ years. They cannot be replaced without replacing the entire beacon which is about $1100. They don’t grow dimmer. As one comment stated the lights of the city have grown greatly and work to obscure the light from the beacons. Which is why we had to change the beacon at the old Casino several years ago from yellow to green because with the parking lot lights behind it you couldn’t see the yellow light. The Lake Havasu Lighthouse Club maintains all those and navigation markers on the lake.
If you see a lighthouse beacon not working properly please leave us a comment.
